Not familiar with this one but looks good!

Today's obscure opus is The Track of the Cat by Walter Van Tilburg Clark

First published in 1949, this Gothic Western transforms the sweeping vistas of the great outdoors into a nightmare of cold, claustrophobic terror, as three brothers head out into a mountain snowstorm to hunt an elusive black panther.
Recommended by Robert R. McCammon in Horror: 100 Best Books as "A great horror novel - but, first and foremost, a great novel"......need I say more?

Trivia Tidbits: Van Tiburg Clark is also the author of The Ox-Bow Incident.

The Track of the Cat was adapted to film in 1954, starring Robert Mitchum, and shot almost entirely in black and white to capture the book's eerie atmosphere.
